Digital X-Rays
Lancaster Dental Group Services
Intra- Oral Camera
By utilizing the latest X-Ray technology, digital X-Rays allow us to expose our patients to far less radiation than that of standard film.  In addition the image is instantaneously available which can allow for faster more efficient procedures.  And finally we are able to utilize the image on an LCD screen in front of the patient to better explain not only what we are doing but why we are doing it.
At Lancaster Dental Group, we take care to provide our patients high quality dentistry personalized for their unique needs. We are available for emergencies and can often get current and new patients in the same day.  Our laboratory is on site as well; allowing more personalized and efficient care for our denture and partial patients, including same day repairs.

Below are a sampling and brief description of some of our services:
The saying a picture is worth a thousand words is just as true in dentistry as it is in the rest of life.  In the past patients would have to rely on the word of the dentist about whatever problems were occurring in their mouths.  But now, with the advent of the intra-oral camera we can take images too not only further explain the treatments that we diagnose for our patients in a clear concise way, but these same photos aid in relating the information to the insurance companies which increases their acceptance of our patients treatment plans.
When the bacteria in our mouths eats the sugars we eat, they produce acid as a by product.  This acid sitting on our teeth is what causes tooth decay, or cavities.  When this occurs it is necessary to remove the effected area to prevent the bacteria from penetrating further inside the tooth and needing a more involved procedure.  Fillings are a one appointment procedure that are generally done with local anesthetic.  Fillings can be done in either Amalgam (silver) or tooth colored (Composite).
When the decay process or other factors such as trauma or grinding have compromised to much of the healthy tooth structure to make a filling a viable way to restore the tooth, crowns are the next option.  Crowns or caps are a two appointment procedure usually done with local anesthetic at the first appointment only.  A crown encompasses the entire tooth above the gums and is made in an off site laboratory to an exact mold of the patients tooth taken at the first appointment.  Crowns can be made of many different materials, from all porcelain too gold, and every combination in between.  Each style of crown have pros and cons that are discussed with the patient at the point of diagnosis, and the best option is chosen by BOTH the doctor and the patient.
One or several missing teeth can be replaced in several different ways.  One of the most common ways to do so is called a bridge.  A bridge is a two appointment procedure that usually only requires anesthetic at the first appointment only.  A bridge is created the same way and in the same materials as a crown in an off site laboratory.  Bridges are in fact several crowns attached to one another that look like individual teeth but are used to replace a single or multiple spaces.  Since there are several ways to replace a missing tooth and a bridge is just one of them, we discuss all options in great detail with our patients so they can make informed non-pressured choices.
